BAGUIO CITY, July 18 (PIA) - - The public can now avail of free computer usage and internet service as well as ICT learning and online access to government services at the Department of Information and Communications Technology's (DICT) Tech4ED Center at the Post Office Building along Session Road, here.
DICT Luzon Cluster 1 Director III Leo Ugto, Technical Operations Division Chief Engr. William Rojas with Department of Transportation-Cordillera (DOTr - CAR) Regional Director Francis Almora officially opened the Tech4ED center on July 12.
Tech4ED which stands for Technology for Education, Employment and Entrepreneurs towards Economic Development, has a computer database system that includes segments on "eEduSkills" that delivers e-learning, "eAgri" that provides contents and services on agricultural technologies for farmers and fisher folks, "eMarketPlace" that can provide greater market reach for exponential economic growth and opportunities for local products, "eAssist" that aims to empower special sectors through access to necessary skills training content to answer specific industry needs, and "eGovServices" that provides links to government online services and application forms.
Ugto outlined that the Tech4ED center will help address the concern on digital divide as aside from free computer usage and internet connectivity, it will also serve as a hub where people can improve their digital literacy and get access to government online services.
"The digital divide has three faces. First, there are those with digital know how but do not have the gadget for it. Second are those who have gadget but no digital know - how and third are those who do not have both. Tech4ED is one of DICT's vehicles to address this digital divide. ICT is already a part of our human rights so our goal is to capacitate all Filipinos on ICT," Ugto stressed.
The Tech4ED Center has ten laptops with internet connectivity and will operate under the DICT Benguet Provincial Office under Engr. Alicia Piacos.
Since the project's launching in 2016, there are already 73 Tech4ED centers established by the ICT department in Cordillera with 11 located in Abra, 18 in Apayao, 12 in Benguet, three in Ifugao, 18 in Kalinga and 11 in Mountain Province. (JDP/CCD/PIA CAR)
